After purchasing a 2015 Ram 1500, this Joliet, Illinois, client quickly figured out that it was missing something important to him: bass, volume and quality sound. We met with the vehicle owner to nail down the specifics of what he wanted to achieve. How much bass did he want? How much louder did it need to be? We looked over his truck to see which factory system was in it. We needed all of this information to come up with a plan for the new audio system.
As with any truck, space was an issue. Choosing the correct subwoofers and enclosure for the available space is crucial to the outcome of the entire system. We used three JL 10″ thin mount subs for “kick you in the chest” bass. To maximize the available enclosure space, we constructed a fiberglass mold of the floor area under the seat. We used this mold as the bottom of the new custom fiberglass enclosure to allow the subs to play nice and low.
A crucial part of the system was proper integration with the factory audio system. We also needed a way to tune the new system to our client’s liking. We chose the Audison bit10 processor for this and, as always, it handled the job beautifully.
We changed the front door speakers to a set of Hertz woofers and installed a set of Hertz tweeters in the dash. These speakers increased the system output level and provided the sound quality the client wanted. Two Hertz amplifiers power the new system with more than 1,500 watts of clean power. Our client was more than pleased with the bass, clarity and volume.
