When clients walk into Tip Top Customs for an audio system upgrade, they can be assured that they are in good hands. We have developed a detailed process that will ensure they get the best value and results for their investment. Let’s walk through our carefully designed four-stage process for better sound.
We always start by asking questions. We are trying to hone in on the perfect solution for the client’s needs. What is it about your existing system that you want to change? What do you like about it? What is missing? How do you use your vehicle? Are you willing to give up space for something like a subwoofer? Armed with these answers, we can tailor our solutions to your needs to find the perfect one.
Establish a Foundation
We find that most clients who have factory-installed audio systems tell us that they do not have enough bass. If you think you may be included here, look and see where you set the bass control on your radio. If it is turned up at all, then you are an excellent candidate for a subwoofer.
We are not talking about a wall of giant subwoofers here. One or two carefully chosen subwoofers can dramatically change everything about an audio system. You will have a system that plays louder because the small speakers do not need to try to make bass frequencies. The subwoofer will play lower than any small factory speaker could dream to. Adding bass is a perfect starting point.
Wake It Up
Once you have a subwoofer in your system, it may become evident that the rest of your speakers are unable to keep up. That’s because, to produce lots of sound and volume, we need a lot of power. The tiny chip-style amplifier built into a radio cannot produce much more than 20 watts and is not sufficient for louder, clearer music. The solution is to add an amplifier for the rest of the speakers in the system. This will provide them with clean, clear power so that you can turn the system up and really enjoy your music.
Speak to Me
Once we have plenty of power in the system, the next step is to upgrade the factory speakers. We often replace the front speakers first to help recreate the sensation of being at a live concert. Better speakers offer dramatically reduced distortion. They are much more crisp, clear and detailed. Better speakers can also play over a wider range of frequencies and at higher volumes.
We often suggest including signal processing in this last stage of the process. A Digital Signal Processor (DSP) allows us to blend the various components of the system together seamlessly for a unified, perfect quality sound. We are able to fine-tune everything to make the listening experience incredibly life-like and very realistic in its reproduction of the original recordings and live performances.
