Bluetooth is a wireless technology allowing your smartphone to connect easily to your car. While the majority of “Bluetooth enabled” devices consumers know are dedicated to hands-free calling, we offer many other products and uses for Bluetooth technology connected in your car.
As of January 1, 2014 it has become against the law to use your “electronic communication device” while driving. The subtle nuance of this law is to keep drivers from the distraction of looking at, or interacting with, their phone directly. At Tip Top Customs we have many solutions for you to stay in touch while behind the wheel and still remain compliant with the new laws.
All Bluetooth uses have specific profiles to identify the intended use. Many smartphones support multiple profiles, which mean you can connect to and use it in the car in many ways.
Bluetooth Hands-Free Calling
Our most popular Bluetooth products support hands-free calling under the Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile (HFP). With our products, you have many choices that range in features and functionality. We offer everything from basic ‘carry in’ devices that are battery or cigarette lighter powered with built in speakers to more robust installed systems with a dedicated screen to view the phone’s contact list and calling status.
Many of our popular in-dash head units feature Bluetooth HFP connectivity as well. Whether you’re replacing your existing in-dash stereo or simply adding Bluetooth hands-free capability to your existing system, we have many solutions that allow the sound of the call to take place over the vehicle’s speakers so you need not install extra parts. Many of our customers find this approach virtually invisible. Simply get in your vehicle, your phone synchronizes (pairs) with the system and it’s ready to place or receive your calls.
Bluetooth Audio Streaming
A second and very popular use for Bluetooth connectivity is allowing wireless connection of your music to your car’s stereo. This is accomplished with the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). If your Bluetooth-enabled car stereo supports A2DP, you can stream content from your smartphone to your car’s audio system without any wires to connect. This means any stored music you have on the phone, or streaming content over the internet (such as Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, etc.) is available on your much better sounding car stereo rather than the phone’s tiny speaker or via ear buds. Why not let every passenger enjoy great music!
Bluetooth Device Control
Many phones also support the Advanced Audio/Video Remote Control profile (AVRCP), which allows you to control aspects of the phone from other buttons in the car. Typically you can control volume, next or last song, play/pause, mute and some additional features of media play. You can access these from steering wheel control buttons or the buttons on the car’s in-dash stereo. This really means you can put the smartphone safely away because all aspects can be done safely from existing buttons in the car. The AVRCP profile even supports artist/song/album text information so you can easily navigate a music library or internet radio station.
